It is a truly amazing and historic time for Greeks in the world of Tennis. This is the first time that a Greek has made it to the French Open Final. Bravo Super Stefanos Tsitsipas! Bravo to Maria Sakkari No. 17, who made it to the semi final, however, unfortunately lost to Czech Republic’s Krejcikova.
In his fourth major semi, Stefanos Tsitsipas has become the first Greek player to reach a Grand Slam singles French Open Final with a 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Alexander Zverev.

While Stefanos Tsitsipas is the current World No. 5, he’s already a role model in the motherland, having helped to put his country Greece on the tennis map through his success in the men’s game, Sakkari isn’t doing any less for her nation. They are both making all Greeks worldwide extremely proud!
Stefano Tsitsipas not only has won the most tour-level matches of anyone this year, the Greek God of Tennis has also won the most on clay.
Stefanos Tsitsipas moved to 20-3 on clay this year with his 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 fourth-round win against Pablo Carreno Busta at Roland Garros on Sunday, becoming the first man or woman to win 20 tour-level matches on the surface in 2021. He was previously tied for 19th place with Federico Delbonis.
“All I can think of is my roots,” said Tsitsipas, in an on-court interview. “I come from a really small place outside of Athens. My dream was to play here and I would never have thought I would achieve it…. There were a lot of people cheering me on in my country and I’m very happy that Greece is part of the tennis community now. Maria [Sakkari] and I have done a good job of elevating the sport and keeping Greek tennis alive.”
Stefanos will have a chance at revenge with Nadal in the Final as he lost to him last year and was devastated. We wish Stefanos the best of luck in the French Open Final as he has made all Greeks worldwide already very proud!
